Daily Rhythm Statement

The daily rhythms of Beehive Preschool have been designed to include a variety of learning and discovery opportunities focused around PLAY with time to relax, rest, and reflect woven into the daily routine. Every day the children will be asked, "what are you curious about today?" Art, science, and experiences in the natural world be used as teaching opportunities and avenues for discovery and learning. Children will have circle time with reading and stories in the morning and early afternoon. The children will have opportunities to work on fine motor and gross motor development through activities such as jumping, balancing, dancing, pinching, digging, stirring, pouring, clapping, cutting, and on and on-- all with imagination ruling the landscape! Opportunities daily for music and movement to music and opportunities for free play. OTs love stimulating through the senses (called sensory play) - it is through this stimulation that learning takes place and children build the neural pathways that support future learning. It is through touch, sight, hearing, taste and smell, and movement and balance that play should happen. During preschool years, the brain is developing faster than at any other time in life and sensory play is the fuel for strengthening the neural connections being made

Handbook

Welcome to Beehive Preschool - a place for kids to buzz with curiosity, learn, play, and grow. Keep reading for highlights from our Handbook. Routines and Rhythms: Calendars will be provided monthly outlining the field trips and activities for the month via paper or digital form. This is where you will find the Hive Happenings such as field trips, snack sharing days, picnics, special events, celebrations, special guests, etc. Sign in and Sign out routine: The blue daily attendance folder with a Child Daily Attendance Log is located in the drop off foyer. Each parent/guardian or myself will record the drop off and pick up time daily. Children will only be released to parents/guardians who are authorized. Safety routines: The kids will be learning about the "safety components" of activities throughout every day. Some examples below: - a walking rope and holding hands for all walking field trips. Each child will also wear a reflective safety vest over clothing. - safe use of preschool scissors -all chemicals will be out of reach and behind child lock drawers and cupboards. All medications in a locked box behind a locked door - fire drills will be completed monthly as required by Early Childhood Division Licensing Division - First aid kit, snacks, and all child information/parent contact info will be with preschool teacher on all fieldtrips - children need to come prepared to school - coats, sunhats, beanie hats, raincoats, walking shoes (if possible an extra pair stored in the cubby at school) -sunscreen at school will be applied every 2 hours as appropriate Avenues for Communication: -Beehive Preschool's '25-'26 cohort will have a private Whatsapp Group Chat and parents can join. This is a great way to provide updates, share photos with parents only (if release is signed) - Email: beehivecoosbay@gmail.com - Phone call: 541-260-6425 -There is nothing better than an in person conversation - I am very old school - Calendars and bulletin board for updates and schedules -website: https://www.beehivepreschoolcoosbay.com/ Parent Responsibilities: - Fill out the enrollment paperwork accurately and completely including information on immunization status, allergies, medical authorization for prescription and nonprescription and notify of changes and updates as needed -read and follow the "Keep Your Child Home If....." handout. Beehive kids will be outside every day, rain or shine, hot or cold. Extra clothing/shoes are a good idea when the weather is inclement. You may prefer to just have an extra pair of clothing and shoes in the cubby -Be prepared for dirt, messy hair, and sparkling eyes at the day's end!! Screen time routines: this is a screen free environment - no phones, no TVs, no computers (accept at the library) no video games. Use of our Eyeclops for magnification through the TV screen and movie night are the exceptions. Field trips/Guest Speakers: -the busy bees will be out of the hive often and usually between the times of 9:30-12:30 - Nature Walks at Mingus Park, playground time at Mingus Park, Coos Bay Library STEAM days and preschool reading days, McKays' Grocery, Coos Bay Fire Station, and Dairy Queen are some of the possibilities - children will wear a laynard with identification information and a yellow reflective vest and Muddy Buddy coverall as appropriate - If there is a trip planned for a place not identified on the "general permission" slip, then an additional permission slip will be provided for signature - I hope to have guest speakers come to the hive and share special things appropriate for preschool age children. Guests will not ever be left unsupervised with children Pets: There are 2 cats in our home, Ophelia and Zeus. Contact with the cats is very unlikely as they will be hiding under the beds most likely Confidentiality Policy: Beehive Preschool understands that parents and legal guardians trust me with the care of their children. Guidance and Discipline Policy for Beehive Preschool, LLC is as follows: Modeling of desired behaviors including respect, kindness, and fairness will be a pillar of the program and will be done using positive language and respectful communication on the level of the child. Discussion and role playing of these desired behaviors will be another pillar and be a part of daily teachings in various facilitated activities including art projects, field trips, reading, and play The Guidance and Discipline policy for Beehive Preschool focuses on positive guidance and behavior management techniques that emphasize teaching and fostering self-regulation rather than punishment. There will be clear expectations for appropriate behavior - including simple and consistent rules that are appropriate for the preschool aged child There will be consistent limits with natural and logical consequences to help the child understand the link between their actions and potential outcomes. There will be redirection techniques - if there is an inappropriate behavior, it will be redirected in a calm and clear voice when first noticed and redirection will be focused on providing alternative ways to express feelings or to channel energy and efforts There will not be punishment for undesirable actions, instead there will be opportunities to teach children appropriate behaviors and self-regulation skills. A brief time out may be used if the child needs an opportunity to calm down and reflect. This time out will be brief and supervised. The child will also be included in a problem-solving approach to identify solutions together. There will be an individualized approach because every child is unique - within the framework of Beehive Preschool’s guidance and discipline policy, each child will be recognized as unique and behavior modification techniques will be tailored to individual needs but with fairness and consistency in mind Lisa Waddington, owner and operator of Beehive Preschool, will maintain open communication with parents regarding any significant behavior issues and work collaboratively with parents to address them. Parents will be notified in a timely manner at day’s end of any significant behavior issues. Beehive Preschool embraces learning and is committed to ongoing training and professional development. Lisa Waddington will continue to seek out and participate in professional development on positive guidance techniques, amongst many other areas of education and training which will continue to ensure the highest quality preschool environment for children.
